    The EdPlus at ASU Action Lab is seeking an experienced Senior Research Scientist with a strong science background and experience in education technology learning efficacy research, learning science as a principal investigator or equivalent. We are seeking a candidate with ideas and motivation to conduct leading research in the efficacy of new learning technology innovation. As a critical part of the Lab's growth, our strategic expansion requires a professional who can initiate and execute actionable research in a wide range of online learning modalities including fully online programs, blended learning and technology innovations in machine based and adaptive learning. The end goal of the candidate's research will result in continuous improvement in instructional design and R&D in new technology innovation. The body of work will be a leverage point to initiate grant-supported research that will explore the intersection of data and learning science that greatly expands higher education's traditional first generation technology-based digital learning mainstream applications. The ideal candidate would be an outstanding, dedicated professional who is extremely knowledgeable in educational research and had demonstrated thought leadership in the field. The Action Lab is particularly seeking candidates with experience in educational applications of visualizations, educational data mining, technology-based performance assessment, cognitive and learning science. The candidate would be flexible in dedicating research to a single focus but also be willing to contribute to several projects in different roles such as conducting research on new digital learning business models and other retrospective and experimental research in ASU's digital course environments. Over the next few years, the candidate will be expected to create and manage new projects that build on and expand our expertise.

    The Digital Teaching and Leaming Action Lab (Action Lab), a division in EdPlus, ASU's digital development innovation center, is a digital learning research center that provides unique, multidimensional research and evaluation of the advanced teaching and learning technologies. Drawing from ASU's leadership position in digital learning and drawing from ASU's world class research capacity in cognitive science, adaptive and personalized learning and social science, the Action Lab will develop new frameworks of digital learning evaluation designed for market consumable translation of research findings into practical classroom applications to improve student outcomes at scale. The core of the Action Lab's work will create actionable, market consumable research that will expand understanding of how private and public stakeholders can develop, at scale, new and better teaching ecosystems. The core value of the EdPlus Action Lab is to create scalable positive change in student success through a deep understanding of the applied use of advanced teaching and learning technology innovation.

    Essential Duties:
    •Research conception, planning and execution that draws upon the cognitive sciences, and new technologies to advance the field of digital teaching and learning.
    •Plans, develops, directs, assesses and conducts institutional research designed to support continuous improvement in digital teaching and learning design to improve student outcomes.
    •Designs and administers educational research.
    •Contributes to research in educational technology through peer-reviewed talks and publications.
    •Designs, developments, and evaluates research prototypes of new forms of assessment.
    •Designs and conducts scientific studies functioning as an expert in the major facets of the projects; responds as a subject matter expert in presenting the results of acquired knowledge and experience. Consults and collaborates on problems arising from research and/or testing programs, or corporate management concerns.
    •Develops proposals for research and development projects and obtains financial support for new or continuing research activities. Prepares initial and final proposals and project budgets.
    •Communicates results to the education research community via published papers.
    •Collaborates with industry/academia to apply research results and develops new techniques, products or practices.
    •Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences.
    •Carries out peer reviews of written publications and presentations to validate theories and inform research.
    •Coordinates or assumes other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s degree in related field AND ten (10) years of related experience in research administration including three (3) years direct experience with education technology research operations and three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

    Desired Qualifications:
    •Evidence of a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a cognitive science-related field such as Educational Psychology, Learning Science, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science, or Educational Technology.
    •Experience in cognitive research in the educational application of technology.
    •Experience as a Principal Investigator of successful projects funded by federal agencies and known foundations.
    •Evidence of research publications to major academic journals.
    •Evidence of deep knowledge of technology-based assessment or research on student learning and application of learning science and data science practices.
    •Evidence of specialized skills such as educational data mining, innovative online assessment, or visualization and computational modeling.
    •Demonstrated knowledge about a range of qualitative and quantitative educational research designs and statistical techniques.
    •Demonstrated working knowledge of higher education data systems and data visualization techniques.
    •Evidence of extensive knowledge of the research literature in education technology.

    Working Environment:
    Our offices are located in ASU SkySong, a dynamic center for innovation - home to both start-ups and Fortune 500 companies.

    Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
