The Department of Economics at the University of Toronto St. George campus invites applications for two two-year Contractually Limited-Term Appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream beginning on July 1, 2017 and ending on June 30, 2019.
We seek enthusiastic individuals with the ability and ambition to advance our department’s rigorous, highly-ranked undergraduate programs. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Economics by the start date of the appointment or shortly thereafter.
The successful candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, have the capacity to expertly incorporate current research from at least two fields within economics into our undergraduate courses, and possess excellent expository, organizational, and interpersonal skills. At the application stage, the necessary evidence of excellence in teaching includes strong endorsements from referees of high standing, working papers or publications, and a creative, coherent and complete teaching dossier that highlights teaching accomplishments and any professional experience that may enhance teaching. A complete teaching dossier includes a teaching statement, course outlines, course evaluations, and select course materials that directly support and illustrate the teaching statement. While the ideal candidate must have a record of excellence in teaching, candidates with a record of excellence in communicating research findings will also be considered. Evidence of excellence in communicating research findings can be demonstrated through the expository skills evident in a candidate’s research papers, presentation slides, conference presentations and letters of reference. The successful candidate must also possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues on our undergraduate courses and programs. Teaching duties are in the undergraduate program, and will include program-required courses at the first and/or second year level and may also include upper-year undergraduate courses.
Salary is to be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
