The Department of Economics at Umeå School of Business and Economics, is looking for a promising young researcher in either of the following two areas: behavioral public economics or labor economics.

A Post-doctoral fellow specializing in behavioral public economics will broaden our primarily theoretical research on optimal taxation and public expenditure towards a more quantitative orientation based on empirical/numerical or experimental research, while a Post-doctoral fellow specializing in labor economics should have research interests in the intersection between the labor and housing markets. The holder of the scholarships is expected to perform and publish research in their specialist areas, and to contribute to the development of the research of the department of economics and be an active member of The Economic Policy Network.

The Post-doctoral scholarship is financed by Tore Browaldh’s Foundation, Handelsbanken. The scholarship will support full time research activity and is limited to three years. A review of the research contribution after three years will then determine whether the scholarship is extended for an additional three years.

The Economic Policy Network (TEPN, www.org.umu.se/tepn/english/) at the Department of Economics, Umeå School of Business and Economics, was established in 2013 as a result of Umeå University’s support to strong research environments at the School of Business and Economics. The Network was established to develop a common infrastructure for research. Researchers belonging to the Network approach issues related to public policy within two main areas of Economics: Public Economics and Labor Economics. Four themes are central to our research: (i) economic policy and behavioral economics; (ii) economic policy and the labor market; (iii) economic policy and sustainable development; and (iv) economic policy and fiscal federalism. The research touches on a broad set of topics such as optimal taxation and public expenditure, social accounting, education policy, local public economics, health policy, interactions between the labor and housing markets, auctions and public procurement, labor mobility, and household responses to taxation.
