A doctoral degree and an active research program related to U.S. agricultural policy are required. The full-time position will be aligned with the Center for Agricultural Policy and Trade Studies, and the successful candidate is expected to serve as the Assistant Director of the Center, which involves a one-month administrative stipend during the summer. This administrative role involves providing leadership to the center’s research, extension, and outreach activities. The primary selection criteria will be the quality of the applicant’s research and interests. The Assistant Professor is expected to participate actively in the University’s intellectual activities, maintain an active extension program, and engage with North Dakota’s agricultural stakeholders on policy issues relevant to the Upper Midwest.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful applicant must have received a doctoral degree in agricultural and applied economics or related fields, preferably within the last five years (or expected by December 2024). The candidate should also have excellent oral and written communication skills and advanced training in agricultural policy, international trade, and/or applied econometrics. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications: A record of relevant publications and extramural funding; training and analytical experience in agricultural and applied economics, including familiarity with U.S. agricultural policy; demonstrated ability to develop and apply structural economic models; knowledge of advanced statistical and machine learning methods; and the ability to engage with stakeholders from the agricultural sector. The successful candidate can work independently and collegially with colleagues and clientele from different disciplines and with varying experience levels and develop an extension program of regional relevance.

Starting Date: January 16, 2025, or as negotiated.
