The Department of Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 1, 2025. Applicants should have a PhD or an anticipated PhD completion by August 2025.
The department seeks applicants in all fields of applied macroeconomics and is particularly interested in macro candidates that have research interests in artificial intelligence, development, gender, or environmental economics. Candidates should have an interest in policy-relevant research, strong quantitative skills, and the ability to supervise doctoral dissertations. Applicants must also be able to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels and provide evidence of strong teaching skills. Responsibilities will consist of conducting and publishing research, teaching undergraduate and graduate (master’s and doctoral) courses and advising students, and participating in department, college, and university service activities.
The annual salary ranges based on rank are as follows: Assistant Professor $100,000-115,000; Associate Professor $120,000-150,000.
