The project may tackle production, circulation, or processing of information and its role in individual or collective behaviors and trajectories. The project can also rely on theoretical and/or applied microeconomics approaches, especially in information economics, game theory, mechanism design, and matching. It may include laboratory or field experiments, or the production and analysis of innovative observational data (geospatial data, data from natural language processing or remote sensing, etc.). Special attention will be given to the intersection of applied economics, AI, and the analysis of economic decisions and policies.

187414 - CSAE Predoctoral Research Fellow
Department of Economics, Manor Road Building, Manor Road, Oxford
Researcher Grade 6: GBP 35,681 – GBP 41,636 per annum (with a discretionary range to GBP 46,476 per annum)
Fixed-term from 1 September 2026 (with some flexibility on start date), for 12 months, with the possibility to extend for up to a further 12 months subject to funding and performance
The postholder will join Dr Rocco Zizzamia and Professor Stefan Dercon as a predoctoral fellow at the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE), an internationally renowned development economics research centre at the University of Oxford. The fellow will work primarily on a large-scale cluster-randomised controlled trial in northern Bangladesh evaluating the impact and cost-efficiency of anticipatory cash transfers in response to monsoon flooding, implemented with GiveDirectly and the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD).
By the time the postholder joins, the bulk of the project’s field operations — sampling frame construction, randomisation, intervention design, partner set-up and the main payment rounds — will be complete. The role is therefore primarily focused on the analysis of the project’s rich survey, administrative and satellite data, and on the writing-up of that analysis into academic papers, policy briefs and donor reports. The fellow will, however, also take on day-to-day management of any remaining survey activity — including instrument refinement, contracting and supervision of survey firms, and quality control of incoming data.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Farm Labor Markets and Environmental Economics
Your role
We seek an innovative modeler focusing on the human social aspects of food systems transformation, specifically on labor markets. The successful candidate will investigate how European producers are adapting to intensifying labor scarcity, their exposure to heat stress and other changes to the food systems. The research will inform adaptations to structural changes in labor markets in the context of climate change.
The Postdoctoral researcher will utilise existing evidence and advanced fine-scale modelling techniques to deepen our understanding of the dynamics of farm labor markets. Ultimately, this work aims to strengthen sustainable food production systems and support the resilience of rural communities.
· Understand the drivers and impacts of intensifying farm labor scarcity on European food systems as well as spillovers to other regions
· Map the data landscape on farm workers in Europe by identifying key sub-groups of farm workers. Lead the development of a comprehensive and standardized fine-scale database that captures the diversity of farm worker typologies and labor market outcomes, including the identification and bridging of critical data gaps
· Acquire and apply state-of-the-art modelling techniques for fine-scale analysis of local agricultural systems, with integration to global market drivers influencing production decisions
· Support the development of Farm Labor module within multi-scale modelling framework for the agricultural sector, like the Simplified International Model for agricultural Prices, Land-use and the Environment, Gridded version – SIMPLE-G
· Use the module to evaluate how farm labor markets interact with expected changes in food systems, e.g., dietary preferences, climate change, e.g., labor heat stress, and policy initiatives
· Foster strong cross-disciplinary collaborations within LCSES, contribute to overlapping research themes where appropriate and further support the establishment of LCSES
For further questions regarding this position, please contact Dr. Srabashi RAY at srabashi.ray@uni.lu.

To strengthen our team and join our junior faculty, we are looking for a Postdoctoral researcher / Economist (f/m/d), starting in September 2026 or on a later date.
The team led by Prof. Panu Poutvaara studies the causes and consequences of migration and immigrant integration. An underlying policy motivation of our team is how migration can generate gains for migrants themselves, host countries, and countries of origin. For the first two questions, the main challenge is how to promote successful integration. The third question connects to development economics, and topics like remittances and the role of migrants in linking countries of origin to host countries. Our current main focuses are intergenerational mobility of immigrants as part of an international collaboration covering 15 countries and return plans and integration outcomes of Ukrainian refugees in various European countries, using ongoing own surveys in Germany and other European countries in which we would welcome your active participation. Join us in these tasks!
We seek a team member who is passionate about high-quality research on policy-relevant questions, has a strong drive to further her/his own research agenda, and is willing to give guidance for doctoral candidates and to communicate her/his research to the public and media.
We, the ifo Institute, are one of the leading economic research institutes in Europe. We work on issues relevant to economics and economic policy at the highest scientific level and with an international reach, and develop research-based recommendations for action for policymakers, business and society.
