SVERIGES RIKSBANK (Central Bank of Sweden), Stockholm, Sweden

Research Division seeks Research Economist

Sveriges Riksbank, located in Stockholm, is the central bank of Sweden. The Riksbank’s main tasks are to maintain price stability and to promote a safe and efficient payment system in Sweden.

The Research Division is seeking to hire a full-time Research Economist. Research Economists conduct research in areas of importance to central banking, including macroeconomics, monetary policy, financial markets, financial stability, banking, and payments. The division organizes academic conferences, hosts an international seminar series, and has an active visitors program. Some staff members also teach part-time at universities.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Research Division plans to fill vacancies for senior or junior research economists, as of 2020.

Suitable candidates will have acquired expertise in doing theoretical or empirical research on monetary economics, open economy macroeconomics, econometrics, financial markets, financial stability, banking, or payments. Applicants for a senior position should have a solid research background in their field. Applicants for a junior position need to have obtained a PhD in economics, statistics or finance, or be close to doing so.

Candidates are expected to produce high-quality research for publication in peer-reviewed journals and to provide policy support to other departments at the Riksbank. Accordingly, an ability to present complex issues effectively and to communicate research results and analytical findings to policymakers is important. The average distribution between research and policy work is 80/20 for junior researchers.

The working languages at the Research Division are English and Swedish. Proficiency in Swedish is not required. The Riksbank is an equal opportunity employer and offers a competitive compensation package. To enhance the diversity of our team, we particularly encourage applications from female candidates. For further information about the research division, see www.riksbank.se/research.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

To apply, submit a vita, three letters of recommendation and one relevant research paper through www.econjobmarket.org.

Selected candidates will be invited for an interview at the European job market for economists in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) on December 18-19, 2019, or at another agreed-upon location.

Candidates must submit their application by November 19, 2019. As the reviewing process will be continuous, we encourage early applications.
