The Department of Economics at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in the field of General Economics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, with an expected start date of July 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter.
We seek enthusiastic and innovative individuals pursuing an award-winning career in university teaching with both the demonstrated ability and demonstrated future capacity to enhance the domestic and international reputation of our undergraduate programs. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Economics or in a related field with a focus in Economics by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter.
We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths. Candidates must have teaching expertise in a degree granting program at the undergraduate or graduate program levels, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry, have the demonstrated capacity to expertly incorporate current research within economics into our undergraduate courses, and possess excellent expository, organizational, and interpersonal skills. At the application stage, the necessary evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogy includes strong endorsements from referees of high standing, teaching-related scholarly activities demonstrated by working papers or publications, and a creative, coherent and complete teaching dossier that highlights teaching accomplishments and any professional experience that may enhance teaching. A complete teaching dossier includes a teaching statement, sample syllabi, teaching evaluations, and select course materials that directly support and illustrate the teaching statement. Evidence of strong communication and expository skills can be evident in a candidate’s working papers, conference presentations and strong letters of reference. The successful candidate must also possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues on our undergraduate courses and programs.
Teaching duties are in the undergraduate program and may include program-required courses at the first and/or second year level, as well as upper-year undergraduate courses.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
