The Department of Economics (DSE) of the University of Bologna, Italy, is recruiting up to two Junior Assistant Professors in any field of economics. Junior Assistant Professorships are meant for newly minted PhDs or doctoral candidates close to completion. The position will start in September 2021, is for up to six years, and is subject to a midterm renewal after which candidates with a strong publications record may be considered for a tenure-track position (with a short probationary period).

We offer a competitive compensation and excellent working conditions (in addition to the unique amenities of the city of Bologna). The primary responsibility of a Junior Assistant Professor is high-quality research; therefore, the teaching load is light and is preferably allocated to master or PhD courses. Knowledge of Italian is not required.

The DSE is one of the largest departments of economics in Italy and as of September 2020 is ranked 17th among all economics departments in Europe by IDEAS/RePEc. It is a growing department that offers a thriving research environment. In 2018 the DSE was recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research as one of the best economics departments in the country and was awarded a large grant that supports an intense hiring policy at both junior and senior levels.

Applications should be received by November 15th, 2020 and should include: (i) a candidate’s CV; (ii) a research statement; (iii) one (or more) research paper(s); (iv) three reference letters; (v) a cover letter that specifies a candidate’s motivation for joining the DSE as well as any other relevant information a candidate wishes to convey. This material must be uploaded at the EconJobMarket website. Interviews will take place online during the European Job Market (14-18 December 2020), which this year will be an entirely virtual event. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to give a seminar at the DSE, either remotely or in-person depending on the circumstances.
