Two-year (renewable for another two) Post Doc in Economics, University of Milan

University of Milan, Italy – Department of Economics, Management, and Quantitative Methods (DEMM).

The Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods (DEMM) is recruiting at the post-doc level in Economics beginning at the latest in September 2021. Candidates should have completed a doctorate by this date. The Department is interested in applicants with the capability to publish in leading journals. An established track record of publications in top generalist or top field journals is appreciated but not required at this stage. We welcome applications from all areas of economics. The successful candidates shall contribute to the research excellence of the Department: candidates therefore are expected to have a well-developed research agenda, and must be willing to work jointly with resident fellow academics on projects of mutual interest. Teaching is not a mandatory component of this post; however, a limited opportunity for this activity could be arranged, should the successful candidates be interested in developing this aspect of their c.v.

The University of Milan is a major research and teaching institution located in one of Europe’s most thriving cities. According to RepEc, the Department of Economics, Management, and Quantitative Methods – DEMM - is one of the top departments of economics in Italy. The recent Italian research assessment exercise (VQR 2011-2014) placed DEMM among the top 10 departments in the area of economics, management and statistics in Italy. DEMM was also selected as one of the “Departments of Excellence” (Dipartimento di Eccellenza) by the Italian ministry of education (MIUR), and was awarded a generous grant to set up the Centre of Excellence in Economics and Data Science (CEEDS).

Net salary is about 21,000€ (24,000€ for candidates holding a non-Italian PhD) per annum (the post is for two+two years).

Language

All research activities and most communications within the department are carried out in English.

Deadline and Selection Process

Applications must be received by November 20, 2020. Interviews will take place on-line: shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their research in a webinar.

Application

Applications should be accompanied by

  • a curriculum vitae,
  • a sample of recent research
  • two letters of recommendation
  • a cover letter in which the candidates describe their research agenda, explaining how it could be integrated into the research carried out in the Department. Candidates should also indicate one or two members of DEMM with similar research interests as the most likely people that they could work with on joint projects. The Selection Panel will place great attention to this cover letter.

All applications should be made via the electronic system at econjobmarket.org. If you encounter any problem with the application process, please contact the following e-mail address: demm.jobmarket@gmail.com.
