Sveriges Riksbank seeks Visiting Research Economist

Sveriges Riksbank, located in Stockholm, is the central bank of Sweden. The Riksbank’s main tasks are to maintain price stability and to promote a safe and efficient payment system. Economists at the Riksbank’s Research Division conduct research in areas of importance to the Riksbank. The Division organises academic conferences, hosts an international seminar series, and has an active visitors program. Some staff members also teach part-time at universities. The Riksbank is also collaborating with the BIS in establishing a BIS Innovation Hub Nordic Centre in Stockholm in the near future.

The Research Division now has a vacancy for a full-time position as a Visiting Research Economist during a time period of up to twelve months, with a starting date in September 2021, at the latest.

We particularly welcome applications from senior researchers with at least three years’ experience and a solid publication record in their field, but more junior researchers are also welcome to apply. Suitable candidates will have acquired expertise in theoretical or empirical research on monetary economics, macroeconomics, econometrics, financial markets, financial stability, banking, or payments. Of particular interest are topics within payments and digital currencies; international macroeconomics or finance; and unconventional monetary policy and its impact on financial markets. Junior candidates need to have obtained a PhD in economics, statistics or finance, or be close to doing so.

Job description

Candidates are expected to produce high-quality research for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and be available to discuss policy issues with management and staff at other departments at the Riksbank, as well as with the Executive Board. Accordingly, an ability to present complex issues effectively and to communicate research results and analytical findings to policymakers is important. However, candidates are not required to take an active part in policy work or policy analysis.

The working languages at the Research Division are English and Swedish. Proficiency in Swedish is not required. The Riksbank is an equal opportunity employer and offers a competitive compensation package. To enhance the diversity of our team, we particularly encourage applications from female candidates. For further information about the Research Division, see www.riksbank.se/research.

Application procedure

To apply, submit a cover letter, a vita, a sample of recent research papers, and three references (names of references for senior candidates; reference letters for junior candidates) through www.econjobmarket.org.

Candidates must submit their application by March 7, 2021. As the reviewing process will be continuous, we encourage early applications.
