The Department of Economics is looking for outstanding scholars who can fill 2-3 vacant positions as Associate Professors in Economics or Finance.

Our employees are active in the international research community and publish regularly in recognized economic journals. The research is in particular oriented towards public economics, education economics, urban economics, natural resources, environmental and development economics, and financial economics.

We have 25 academic staff members, 700 students and three administrative employees. You will become part of an ambitious and inclusive work environment.

Duties of the position

As an Associate Professor at the Department of Economics you will

  • conduct your own research
  • contribute to the development of the department's research
  • publish research in leading international journals and convey findings both in academia and to the general public
  • take part in the writing of applications for external funding of research projects
  • teach and supervise students at bachelor's, master's and PhD level
  • contribute to the development and use of varied teaching activities and forms of assessment

Required selection criteria

In order to be qualified you must have a PhD in Economics or Finance. In addition, you must be able to document recent publications in Economics or Finance, and a potential for future research at a high academic level. Both established researchers and talents who have recently finished their PhD are welcome to apply.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • experience with, and an ability to, initiate and obtain external funding for research projects
  • teaching experience from university or college level
  • ability to engage and involve the students in your teaching activities
  • experience and abilities in academic networking

The teaching needs at the department will be taken into consideration when ranking the applicants.

You are expected to show a conscious and reflective attitude in activities related to teaching and supervision. You must document relevant basic competence for teaching and supervision at university/higher education-level, ref. Regulations. If this cannot be documented, you are required to complete an approved course in university teaching within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses.

It is a prerequisite that within three years of appointment, new employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language can demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three in the course for Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.

Salary and conditions

In a position as Associate Professor (code 1011) you will normally be remunerated from gross NOK 555 800 to NOK 726 400 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund and NOK 400 for funds for organizational development initiatives.

The positions are permanent and full time.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment, you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite that you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.

This means that we pay special attention to the quality and professional breadth of these works. We also consider experience from research management and participation in research projects. We place great emphasis on your scientific work from the last five years.
