The Department of Economics at the University of Exeter Business School is seeking to recruit to two fixed term posts at the levels of Visiting Lecturer (Visiting Assistant Professor). These positions will be available on a two year fixed term contract.

Main purpose of the job:

You will contribute to teaching in one or more of the disciplinary areas in the department, supervise student projects and dissertations and develop, implement, and promote innovative teaching practices. You should be an independent, pro-active, and energetic person with a passion for education and teaching. You are expected to contribute to the ‘public good’ by taking part and help organize department events, work collaboratively with others to find solutions to specific academic issues and liaise with student bodies whenever necessary. The majority of your time will be spent on teaching related activities but you will have time to pursue your own research.

The subject areas we seek specific expertise in Data Science for Economics and Fintech. Candidates must have knowledge and experience in programming, especially using Python and its libraries matplotlib, numpy, and pandas. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have some knowledge and experience in at least one or some of the following:

- Have knowledge and experience in some of the following: R, database (e.g., SQL, MongoDB), version control (e.g., Git/GitHub), command line shell script (e.g., bash), network analysis (e.g., igraph, Python’s networkx)

- Have a special interest in data science and/or a basic understanding of bitcoin/blockchain theory and application

Candidates should have a Ph.D. already in hand or firmly expected by December 2021 and should show evidence or promise of significant scholarship.
