The Institute of Economics at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences of Kiel University invites applications for an

Assitant Professorship (W1) in Economics, especially Macroeconomics

with temporary civil service status for an initial period of three years to start at the earliest possible time.

The future job holder shall be responsible for the subject area Economics, especially Macroeconomics in research and teaching.

We seek candidates with a university degree, preferably in economics, who have demonstrated their particular aptitude for scientific work through the outstanding quality of their dissertation in the field of macroeconomics. Pedagogical and didactic aptitude are required. The successful candidate is expected to qualify for appointment to a professorship at a university or equivalent institution by independently performing tasks in science, research and teaching as well as continuing education in her/his field of expertise.

The future job holder will offer courses in the field of macroeconomics in the Bachelor’s program and the English-language Master’s programs. In addition, active participation in the education of doctoral students is expected. The willingness and ability to teach in English are required. The ability and willingness to teach in German, if necessary after learning the German language, are desirable. Publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, teaching experience, experience in obtaining third-party funding, and international visibility are an advantage. A research approach based on modern dynamic models is desired. An interest in the connection between macroeconomics and environmental economics or resource economics is desirable. Experience in working with big data is an advantage. We expect the successful candidate to closely cooperate with her/his colleagues specializing in macroeconomics at Kiel University and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. An interdisciplinary orientation and the potential to connect to the focal research areas of the Faculty and Kiel University, in particular to Kiel Marine Science, are desirable.

After successful evaluation of the first phase of the assistant professorship it is the aim to extend the temporary civil servant status for another period of three years (second phase).
