The University of Tübingen is one of Europe’s oldest universities and in recent years has been very successful in the German federal and state governments’ Excellence Initiative. The Department of Managerial Accounting, Prof. Dr. Patrick Kampkötter, is inviting applications for a position as

Research and Teaching Assistant /
PhD Student (f/m/d)

(German public sector pay scheme E 13 TV-L, 100%)

for the duration of 3 years starting from April 2023.

The position combines research and teaching. We focus on applied research in the fields of managerial accounting and organizational economics based on modern microeconomic methods such as the econometric analysis of field data (company data sets, establishment and population surveys, etc.) and field experiments.

The purpose of your work is to conduct high quality research and teaching on individual behavior within organizations. Topics cover, for instance, the design and effects of compensation and performance evaluation systems, and the use of accounting information and performance indicators in firms.

You will present your research at international academic conferences and publish papers, either individually or written jointly with co-authors, in top-tier international academic journals. A part of your working time will also be dedicated to teaching, particularly in the area of managerial accounting and business economics. Enthusiasm for teaching is therefore highly desirable. Writing a dissertation will be an essential part of your activities. An excellent master’s degree or equivalent in economics, business administration, mathematics or related areas and a strong ability and interest for quantitative research methods and applied microeconometrics is a precondition for this position. Applicants should be fluent in English (spoken and written).

The University seeks to raise the number of women in research and teaching and therefore urges qualified women to apply. Disabled candidates will be given preference over other equally qualified applicants.

The employment will be carried out by the central administration of the University of Tübingen.

The application should consist of the following documents: short letter of motivation (max. one page), curriculum vitae, diploma and transcripts of records, and a copy of the master thesis (or equivalent, if already completed). Please send your application by December 20, 2022 in one single PDF attachment via email to managerial-accounting@wiwi.uni-tuebingen.de.If you have any further queries, do not hesitate to contact Prof. Dr. Patrick Kampkötter (patrick.kampkoetter@uni-tuebingen.de).
