The Department of Economics at the University of Calgary invites applications for a position of Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Environmental Policy and Sustainability. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate professor (with tenure) and will be nominated as a CRC Tier II with and anticipated start date of January 1, 2025, although a later date can be negotiated.

The Chair holder is expected to take a leadership role in the Department of Economics’ strong research group in environmental, resource, and energy economics, building on the profile of this research through internal and external collaborations, active participation in professional events, graduate student teaching and supervision, and other means as appropriate. The successful candidate must have a PhD in Economics and demonstrate a vision for contributing to the University of Calgary’s strengths (including environmental, resource and energy economics) with a focus on environmental policy and sustainability. The successful candidate will also have engaged graduate teaching and training in their field. A research profile on topics such as the environment, climate change, natural resources, non-market valuation, or energy transitions is required.

The successful candidate should be an “exceptional emerging scholar,” within 10 years of their highest degree, at the time of nomination. In accordance with the regulations set for Tier II Canada Research Chairs, applicants must have received their Ph.D. within the last 10 years and be an emerging world-class researcher. Candidates who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree and who have had career breaks, such as maternity, parental, or extended sick leave, and research interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, etc., may have their eligibility for a Tier II Chair assessed through the program's Tier II justification process. The successful candidate at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate evidence of a track record of publications in high quality journals, prior experience in working with external research funding programs, and effectiveness in teaching at the University level.

The successful candidate at the Associate Professor level must demonstrate evidence of a strong track record of publications in high quality journals, evidence of securing ongoing external research funding, effectiveness in teaching at the University level, and evidence of effective graduate student supervision.
