The Department of Economics at Washington University in St. Louis seeks to hire a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer on the teaching track starting in August 2024. This is a full-time position. Eventual promotion to teaching professor is possible depending on teaching and service.

Teaching-track faculty in the Department of Economics regularly have an assignment of three courses per semester in addition to a service component. Teaching-track faculty will not be evaluated on research or scholarship as part of their appointment. Teaching track faculty are, however, strongly encouraged to participate in research activities within the department, including department seminars.

Applicant Qualifications and Teaching Duties:

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in economics at the time of appointment and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Applicants for the rank of senior lecturer must have an outstanding teaching record commensurate with appointment at that rank.

A key component of teaching will be principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics. Therefore candidates should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching principles courses. Principles classes often exceed 100 students, so the ability to succeed in large classes is essential. Other courses may include intermediate microeconomics, econometrics, and undergraduate courses related to the interests of the candidate as well as Master’s level courses. Graduate students are available for grading and other assistance and all lecturers are expected to oversee and mentor graduate student instructors.

Applicant Instructions:

Applications should consist of a curriculum vitae, a cover letter describing ongoing teaching interests, past teaching evaluations, and the names and contact information of three referees. Candidates should describe the courses that they are able to teach, with particular attention to past experience teaching principles courses. All application materials should be submitted via the EconJobMarket.org website.

Applications will be considered as they are received until the search is concluded.
