The Helsinki Graduate School of Economics (Helsinki GSE) brings together the economics faculty from three Finnish universities - Aalto University, Hanken School of Economics, and the University of Helsinki. Our mission is to produce outstanding research with maximum academic and social impact, to educate the next generation of world-class economists, and to offer excellent training across disciplinary borders. For more information on the Helsinki GSE, please visit https://www.helsinkigse.fi

As part of the Helsinki GSE initiative, the Department of Economics at Aalto University School of Business invites applicants to apply for a postdoctoral position in the economics of crime. The position is in the Department of Economics of Aalto University, the leading research-oriented economics unit in Finland. We welcome applicants with experience in applied microeconomics broadly defined. The duration of the fellowships is three years. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree (or be near completion of the doctorate) in economics or a related field. The applicants will be reviewed based on their research and activity in the scientific community, and their fit with the research team.

The position is funded by an Academy of Finland grant titled " The Economic and Health Costs of Victimization". The person would be working under the supervision of our team: Prof Kristiina Huttunen (Aalto University), Prof Abi Adams (University of Oxford), Prof Martti Kaila (University of Glasgow), Prof Emily Nix (University of Southern California), and Prof Ning Zhang (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), and work on topics related to the costs of criminal victimization, and the impact of criminal punishments or court decisions. The post-holder will also be allocated time to manage their own research tasks and work on his/her independent projects.

The new fellow will join a vibrant community of researchers in Helsinki and beyond working on crime and labor economics. We offer access to remarkable data, research networks, and the opportunity to use our infrastructure in suitable new projects as discussed with the team. The fellow will also be given time, support, and mentoring to develop their own research agendas. In return, we expect the fellow to be active members of the labor economics research group and our broader academic community, participate in graduate student supervision, and teach one course in the economics of crime, labor economics, or a related field.
