The Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business will teach classes; create and participate in a variety of learning activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve learning objectives. The incumbent will develop and execute a scholarly and/or creative agenda as evidenced by published contributions to the scholarship of the field. They will work collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department, college, and university. The Assistant Professor will support and seek always to fulfill the guiding principles and mission of Saint Joseph's University. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Plan, develop and teach well-organized classes and present other learning opportunities for students in accordance with departmental goals and objectives.
• Prepare curriculum materials, including course outlines, syllabi and other instructional materials in keeping with departmental and college principles. Contribute, as appropriate, to program improvement and curricular development.
• Assume academic advising responsibilities. Participate in department processes designed to recruit, advise and retain students. Provide out-of-class communication opportunities with students.
• Maintain competency and academic currency in the subject matter of the faculty member's discipline and in teaching skills through ongoing research and scholarly activity.
• Be actively involved in the intellectual and scholarly development of his/her field, as demonstrated by membership in and scholarly refereed presentations at professional associations, refereed or editorially reviewed published contributions to the scholarship of the field.
• Uphold and comply with faculty responsibilities as described in the "Faculty Responsibilities" section of the Faculty Handbook.
• Take part in program and department planning and in the establishment of department goals and objectives.
• Participate in department, college, and university meetings as appropriate. Provide meaningful service at department, college, and university levels as appropriate.
• Seek always to promote a spirit of collegiality in dealings with college staff. Assure effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
• Be familiar with college assessment and placement procedures and effectively utilize campus resources.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Recommend expenditures, as appropriate, to department chair.
• Represent the university to external constituencies as appropriate.
• Participate in the selection and evaluation of adjunct faculty and staff as appropriate.
• May be assigned supervisory responsibility for student employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Possession of a doctorate or PharmD in the individual's an accredited institution or ABD with clear evidence of progress
• Demonstrated potential as an effective teacher and productive scholar at the college or university level
• Candidates must have a focus in Pharmaceutical & Healthcare Business (or a closely related area), with industry experience and research interest in at least 2 of the following areas: Pharmaceutical Marketing, Market Access, Brand Management, Advertising & Promotion, Sales, Pricing, Channel Management, Strategic Planning, Health Administration, Market Research or other areas taught by the department
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior academic (teaching and research) experience
• Possess a minimum of 3-5 years of industry experience to complement their academic achievements; teaching and research in the candidates’ areas of expertise are preferred.
