post-doctoral researcher in information and competition economics
We welcome applications from talented candidates with
1. experience in applied microeconomic theory, broadly defined, and
2. a doctorate in economics, completed by the time of appointment.
The position is funded by an Academy of Finland grant titled "Information system design for overcoming market failure", led by Academy Research Fellow, Principal Investigator Saara Hämäläinen. The project employs oligopoly theory and mechanism design to tackle problems related to competition in digital multiproduct ecosystems and procurement of public information systems.
The position has a duration of two years, starting in 2025, with the possibility of another position being filled for one year in 2025 or 2026. Applicants will be reviewed based on their research and academic potential. A successful candidate could have a background in theoretical industrial organization, but candidates with broad interests in economic theory are encouraged to apply.
The postdoc will join a dedicated community of economics researchers at Helsinki GSE. We offer access to networks, mentoring, and ambitious research collaboration, targeting top journals in economics. The postdoc will also have access to limited funds for research visits to support their future job search and the dissemination of their research findings.
The postdoc will be working in collaboration with our team but would also be given time for pursuing independent research. We encourage the person to be active in the microeconomics and industrial organization research groups at the Helsinki GSE, and our broader academic community, and participate in the supervision of our graduate students.
Teaching obligation for the position is limited (up to 5% annually). The postdoc could serve, for example, as a teacher or co-teacher for one course in economics to develop their teaching skills. The course can be taught in English - Finnish is not required. The discipline of economics at the University of Helsinki focuses on macroeconomics, time series economics, public economics, and applied game theory. The annual gross salary range is €44,000 – €51,000, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
