Lab Manager and Lecturer position

The Faculty of Economics and Business (EB) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) offers world-class education in economics, fiscal economics, econometrics, actuarial science, and business administration to over 5,000 students. Home to top-tier research groups and 400 staff members, EB is internationally renowned and consists of the Amsterdam Business School and the Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE).

The Amsterdam School of Economics is among the top economics research institutes in Europe. The School has a strong focus on producing outstanding research and world-class teaching and is highly active in international academic networks. The ASE is known for its ambitious and supportive culture with ample opportunity for personal development in an attractive international work environment.

Microeconomics is one of ASE’s four sections, covering research in experimental & political economics, applied microeconometrics, and markets & organizations, while also leading microeconomics courses in FEB’s bachelor’s and master’s programs. The Microeconomics section hosts the Center for Research in Experimental Economics (CREED), one of Europe’s largest groups in experimental economics, with three dedicated laboratories.

We are now recruiting for a combined Laboratory Manager (50%) and Lecturer (50%) position. This appointment includes only limited research time.

As a lab manager, you will be responsible for maintenance of the infrastructure. This involves routine hardware and software upkeep; managing experimental platforms (e.g., oTree) and servers; coordinating with central IT; scheduling lab use; recruiting and maintaining the participant pool; cash management; purchasing and inventory control; ensuring data security, backups, and GDPR/IRB compliance; preparing rooms and equipment and providing on-site technical support during sessions when needed; documenting procedures; and supporting researchers with programming advice and programming.

As a lecturer, you will be responsible for teaching microeconomics courses. The academic year is structured into four six-week blocks and two three-week blocks, during which you’ll spend an average of 7-8 hours per week in the classroom. Initially, you’ll focus on bachelor-level courses, primarily leading tutorials for subjects coordinated and taught by other faculty members. Additionally, you’ll supervise bachelor and master theses. Over time, based on performance, you may take on full course responsibility, including at the master’s level.

The Microeconomics section is a diverse team of 50+ members, ranging from PhD candidates to full professors, each contributing their expertise and perspectives. Currently, six lecturers specialize in teaching, contributing to an environment that values and respects every member’s role in both education and research.

We foster a collaborative atmosphere, with regular team meetings and open communication with colleagues and leadership. Beyond work, informal gatherings provide opportunities to connect in a more relaxed setting.

We are seeking a motivated and passionate lab-manager/lecturer who wants to specialize in academic teaching. The ideal candidate:

· Has experience with experiments in economics and experimental software.

· Has experience with and an interest in microeconomics.

· Is a team player, treating colleagues with respect and professionalism.

· Holds (or is close to completing) a PhD in Economics.

· Has university-level teaching experience; applicants with strong course evaluations are encouraged to apply.

· Is fluent in English and either fluent in Dutch or willing to learn Dutch for teaching purposes.

We offer full-time employment for the period of four years with a probationary period of two months, preferably starting from Jan 1, 2026, with the prospect of a permanent employment agreement.

This means a gross monthly salary between € 3,546 and € 5,538 for full-time employment (38 hours per week), excluding holiday allowance (8%) and year-end bonus (8.3%). The salary scale depends on competences and work experience.

The Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable.

The UvA has an extensive package of fringe benefits, including:

· 29 days' holiday with full employment & extra holidays between Christmas and the New Year;

· Reimbursement of commuting expenses;

We offer full-time employment for the period of one year with a probationary period of two months, preferably starting from January 1, 2026, with the prospect of a permanent employment agreement.

The UFO profiles Process Manager (for lab manager) and Docent 3 apply to this position. This position is classified in scale 11. This means a gross monthly salary between € 4,728 and € 6,433 for full-time employment (38 hours per week), excluding holiday allowance (8%) and year-end bonus (8.3%). The salary scale depends on competences and work experience.

IFS is Europe’s leading centre for microeconomic research and is an authoritative, independent commentator on a wide range of policy issues, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and the wider public.

The Director is Helen Miller and the Research Director is Imran Rasul. Research at IFS is led by a large number of Co-Directors including James Banks, Richard Blundell, Aureo de Paula, Eric French, Francois Gerard, Rachel Griffth, Attila Lindner, and Fabien Postel-Vinay.

Candidates should have an excellent academic background, a track-record of producing high-quality economic research and experience of and/or commitment to working on the UK context. First rate communication skills and a capacity and willingness to manage and develop junior colleagues are essential. Experience of achieving policy impact through research or of successfully bidding for external funding would be an additional asset. We are particularly interested in candidates working on the topics of public finance, tax, firms and labour markets.

Successful candidates are expected to build on their research agenda at IFS, lead projects aimed at publishing in top economics journals, raise funding, and influence policymaking through direct engagement with policymakers and the media. In addition, they will be expected to engage in mentorship and development of more junior researchers, often including formal line management responsibilities, contribute to the wider intellectual life and running of the institute. They will work within a team of researchers whose direction of research fits with the researcher’s expertise and interests. This will likely include a mix of senior academics and IFS research staff.

These are permanent positions with a remit to help shape, carry out, and communicate empirical research. The IFS promotes from within, and successful candidates would have scope for promotion and to develop a long-term career at IFS. Applicants would join at the top of the pay-scale for IFS Research Economists with the expectation of quick promotion to the position of Senior Research Economist (subject to performance), for which the salary range is currently £73,400 to £90,900. There will be considerable scope for successful candidates to shape future research ideas and to work on new initiatives to communicate our work and shape policy debates.

We welcome applications from individuals who have completed their PhD or students expecting to complete a PhD in 2026.

Applications should be submitted via EconJobMarket. We aim to interview shortlisted candidates at the European Job Market, which will be held virtually in December 15-18, 2025. Subsequent fly-outs will be arranged in January 2026 for short-listed candidates.

If you have any queries, please email jobs@ifs.org.uk.

Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant Postdoc in Labor Economics at the Department of Economics.

The Department of Economics engages in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer within the core areas of economics, i.e. microeconomics, macroeconomics, and quantitative methods. The department has a strong research profile and an excellent track record in fundraising. It is especially active in business-related and applied economic research, and hosts two research centers: Copenhagen School of Energy Infrastructure (CSEI) and Pension Research Centre (PeRCent). The department currently manages several research projects funded by Danish and EU research councils, as well as by private foundations and companies. In addition, the department is responsible for teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, and PhD levels across various study programs at CBS.

The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with Associate Professor Annaïg Morin on a research project exploring gender differences in labor market dynamics and career progression. The project examines the origins and consequences of gender disparities in employment trajectories, firm and task segregation, and career advancement, with a focus on how family dynamics, social norms, and household specialization shape job search behavior and labor market outcomes. The research combines empirical analysis using Danish register data with the development of search-theoretic models. In addition to contributing to the project, the postdoctoral researcher will be encouraged to pursue independent research in related fields.

The Postdoc is a non-tenured position for a two- or three-year period, to be negotiated during interviews. The position will have a research obligation. If the selected candidate is only interested in research without teaching, the Postdoc position may be for two years. If the selected candidate is interested in teaching, the position may also have a teaching obligation, and then the Postdoc position will be for three years. This latter entails that teaching will be one third of the workload.

To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department.

Qualifications
The applicant must hold a PhD or the equivalent.

In assessing applications, particular emphasis will be placed on the following:

  • A strong background in labor economics, applied microeconometrics, or macro-labor economics;
  • Knowledge of structural modeling approaches to job search and labor market dynamics;
  • Proficiency in Stata;
  • Knowledge of R, Matlab, Python, and/or Fortran;
  • Experience working with micro data, ideally administrative or matched employer–employee data;
  • Documented research track record at international level, including publications in recognized journals in the field.

Emphasis will be placed on research relevant to the job description.

The applicant must have professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Copenhagen Business School has a broad commitment to the excellence, distinctiveness and relevance of its teaching and research programs. Candidates who wish to join us should demonstrate enthusiasm for working in an organization of this type (highlighting, for example, relevant business, educational and dissemination activities).

Prospects
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and internationally oriented research environment within the Department of Economics at Copenhagen Business School. CBS is strongly committed to excellence, distinctiveness, and societal relevance in both its teaching and research activities.

The position offers an opportunity to further develop the postdoctoral researcher’s profile through collaboration with experienced faculty members and participation in ongoing research projects, while also supporting independent research initiatives.

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to contribute actively to the department’s academic life, including participation in seminars, workshops, and research collaborations. Support will be provided for presenting research at leading international conferences and publishing in high-quality field and general-interest journals. The position offers access to high-quality Danish register data and provides a well-equipped workspace located in the heart of Copenhagen.

For further information please contact: Associate Professor Annaïg Morin, e-mail amo.eco@cbs.dk.

Information about the department may be found at www.cbs.dk/econ.

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Central Academic Organisation.

Application
Application must be sent via the electronic recruitment system, using the link below.

Application must include:

  1. A cover letter, with a summary of the candidate’s main strengths and abilities.
  2. A complete, numbered list of publications (indicating titles, co-authors, page numbers and year) with an asterisk (*) marking of the academic productions to be considered during the review. A maximum of five publications for review is allowed. Applicants are requested to prioritize their publications in relation to the field of this job advertisement.
  3. Copies of the publications marked with an asterisk (*). Only publications written in English (or another specified principal language, according to research tradition) or one of the Scandinavian languages will be taken into consideration).
  4. Information indicating experience in research management, industry co-operation and international co-operation, if applicable.
  5. Documentation of relevant, significant, original research at an international level, if applicable.
  6. Transcript(s) and a full CV.

Recruitment procedure
The Recruitment Committee will shortlist a minimum of two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline.

Further Particulars

For further information about the University of Warwick, please read our University Further Particulars.

Warwick Business School (WBS) is a world-class business school at the heart of a world-class University, challenging assumptions and championing business as a force for good. From the pioneering research we undertake, to the students we help to shape, we are for the Change Makers who will impact the world for the better.

We were the first UK business school to be triple accredited by the major bodies (EQUIS, AMBA, AACSB) and our courses consistently rank highly – view all of our rankings here.

However, we’re more than our rankings and we’re proud to be different. We’re down to earth and approachable, and we want WBS to feel like home to our students, our staff and our alumni community. We look to provide a stimulating and fulfilling work environment for all, one where you will feel supported and encouraged to grow professionally, developing your knowledge, skills, confidence and career.

Our vision

Our vision is to be Europe’s leading University-based business school, developing transformational ideas and people that shape how we do business. This vision is supported by our three-fold mission:

1. To develop cutting-edge research that leads debate and deepens our understanding of the practice of business and management

2. To provide a transformational learning experience, enabling our stakeholders to realise their full potential

3. To work in partnership with policy and practice, both in terms of our research and teaching activities, to catalyse the impact of our work.

Everything we do is underpinned by our CORE values and driven by a commitment to a Change Maker mindset. We look for this shared commitment across our staff and student community.

· Change Makers see the bigger picture. Thinking beyond themselves and their environment, they’re open to other viewpoints and consider the ripple effect of what they do on a personal, social, and commercial level. They’re driven by having the biggest positive impact and a focus on the greater good.

· Change Makers challenge the norm. Challenging the status quo and not just accepting things at face value is when real impact and change can be delivered.

· Change Makers have the drive as well as the vision. It’s one thing having a vision but having the drive and work ethic to realise a vision is another matter. Change Makers relentlessly pursue every possible solution in order to achieve their goals.

Our CORE Values

· We challenge, we embrace different perspectives, and we think creatively to build our future.

· We’re open to different perspectives, talking to stakeholders, listening to feedback, embracing change and pushing forward for the better.

· We’re not satisfied with standing still and never stop looking for ways to improve. Constantly evaluating, we don’t stop when we’ve achieved one thing; we use all of our initiative, drive and resourcefulness to achieve more.

· At a world class university and a globally recognised business school, excellence is a given. There are no half measures at WBS.
