Principal Investigator: Professor Federica Romei

Contract Type: Fixed-term, from 1 September 2025 to 30 August 2026 (some flexibility around those dates), with the possibility to extend

About the Project

This interdisciplinary research project examines key macroeconomic developments over the past three decades—including rising inequality, increased capital mobility, and the persistent decline in real interest rates—through the lens of cross-country and within-country heterogeneity. • To contribute to the development and management of research projects as part of the overall research agenda in the ERC grant.

IESEG School of Management and The LEM (UMR 9221), a research unit of the University of Lille, invite applications for fully funded Phd position in Economics, with the emphasis on the Economics of Migration and Migration Policy at its Lille campus.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The PhD student will develop a research agenda on the political economics of migration drawing implications for the integration of migrants in destination countries. European societies face increasing challenges in integrating diverse cultural values and norms, making immigration a central topic in political debates. Concerns over cultural differences between natives and immigrants influence public opinion and policy, often fueling populist sentiments. While research on migration and integration is extensive, evidence remains mixed on whether immigrants assimilate into host societies or retain their cultural traits. Some studies suggest immigrants influence institutions and norms in their new countries, while others highlight a gradual adoption of local values through economic and social integration. However, the factors shaping cultural assimilation and persistence remain insufficiently quantified. This project seeks to address this gap by examining how both origin and destination countries shape immigrants' cultural preferences. An important focus will be on the labor market of the host country, particularly the role of skills—both in terms of availability and how they are valued by local employers. Despite the growing immigrant workforce in Europe, little is known about how firms perceive migrant skills compared to those of natives. Moreover, skill downgrading is a common challenge for migrants seeking employment. Beyond labor market integration, demographic and fertility-related factors are relevant too, particularly from a gender perspective. Also, different patterns can relate to the experience of voluntary versus forced migration. The analysis may leverage the use of large-scale European datasets, country-level datasets or experimental research based upon own original data.

SUPERVISION & RESEARCH TEAM

The PhD student will be supervised by Simone Moriconi in collaboration with Riccardo Turati (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona). The student will also benefit from interactions with a a team specialists in the fields of labor economics, industrial relations, management and demography, which are part of the IFLAME Research Center and the “Economics and Financial Flows” axis of the LEM research unit.

Department Lecturer in Economics**

Oxford reference: 178618

Grade 8 RS: £48,235-£57,255 pa (with a discretionary range to £64,228 pa)

Department of Economics, Manor Road Building, Oxford

Full-time, fixed-term for 3 years, with the possibility of renewal.

The Department of Economics is seeking to employ a Departmental Lecturer in Economics. The post is tenable for three years with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate must be available to start either immediately or by the autumn of 2025 at the latest, as the role is currently vacant.

The principal task of the Departmental Lecturer will be to work with academic colleagues in the Department of Economics and with professional colleagues within the Saïd Business School to develop teaching materials for the MSc in Applied Financial Economics course. The MAFE is a new hybrid (part on-line, part in-person) degree which is due to take its first cohort of students in 26-27. Much of the academic content, which covers topics in micro, macro and econometrics, already exists and is currently being taught on the highly successful MSc in Financial Economics (MFE). However, the content of the MFE, which has been developed for in-person teaching, needs to be adapted to the requirements of high-quality on-line learning. It is this adaptation which will form the bulk of the postholder’s responsibility in the first two years in the post. Afterwards, the postholder will be expected to continuously maintain and review the materials for the MAFE. The postholder is not expected to be expert in the entire range of subjects taught on the MFE, rather we are looking for someone who is academically flexible enough to be able to help re-organise this material into a form which on-line students will be able to digest successfully.

Reporting to the Head of Department, the postholder will be required to develop the new course in collaboration with the course Director and other academic and professional colleagues.

Your application should be submitted on Econjobmarket and include a CV, a supporting statement and the names and contact details of three referees.

Please see the Further Particulars for more information by using the following link: Job Details

For an informal discussion about this new post, please contact Dr. Alex Teytelboym (Course Director of the MSc. In Financial Economics): alexander.teytelboym@economics.ox.ac.uk

The application deadline is March 31st, with virtual interviews expected to take place shortly thereafter.

Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts at Oxford.

To apply for this position, log in and choose your Applicant role (or, if you have no account, create one).

This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months.

This role can be offered as a full time or part time role (minimum 17.5 hours).

The FMG is seeking a Research Assistant to closely collaborate with Christopher Polk and Dimitri Vayanos on research projects that relate primarily to empirical asset pricing and involve analysis of asset returns, portfolio holdings and trades by market participants, and accounting and financial information of firms.

The successful applicant will be involved in many aspects of the above projects including data collection, data cleaning and merging, statistical analysis, production of reports with statistical results, literature reviews, and replication of findings of existing papers. The successful applicant might also be involved in additional projects that may be more theoretical. In that case, the aspects in which the applicant will contribute will concern primarily programming numerical solutions of the theoretical models and doing literature reviews.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to attend PhD classes in Finance and Economics at the LSE; interact with PhD students in both departments; interact with Finance faculty; and obtain advice and support from faculty about the PhD application process.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
