Full-time: 35 Hours per week

Fixed-term: for 2 years and 6 months

The opportunity:

The School of Economics is growing and is seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Researcher in Economic Theory and Theoretical Industrial Organization to undertake high quality research, teaching, and knowledge exchange related to these fields. The post comes with a time allocation of 30% teaching and 70% research, knowledge exchange and impact.

Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to producing internationally excellent research and delivering high quality teaching that contributes to the development of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and the learning experience of our students. Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in economics or related field, and have demonstrable potential to publish their research in leading refereed journals, to contribute to knowledge exchange activities and to secure research income.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Have a PhD in Economics or be within 6 months of completion of a PhD at the start of the post in March 2025.
  • Be available to commence employment with in-person teaching in March 2025.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an existing or developing record of research with potential for publication in leading peer-reviewed journals in economics.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to make an outstanding contribution to the research activities and intellectual life of the School of Economics.
  • Have an interest in teaching courses related to Industrial Organization.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The School is looking for applicants with expertise in Theoretical Industrial Organization and Economic Theory more generally.

Please note that the University of Edinburgh defines completion of a PhD as the submission of the corrected thesis following the candidate’s viva examination, or when the candidate receives confirmation that there are no corrections to address.

Interviews will be online and take place in December or early January. As part of this interview the candidates will be asked to give a job talk online. As the job starts in March, offers will be made soon after the interviews; for the same reason, any offers made will expire well before the overall market is over.
