The Department of Economics at Aalto University invites applications for two postdoctoral fellowships starting in 2024. The positions are in the economics of education, but we welcome applicants with experience in labor economics more broadly. The duration of the fellowships is three years, with the possibility to extend to a fourth year. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree (or be near completion of the doctorate) in economics or a related field. The applicants will be reviewed based on their research and activity in the scientific community.
The positions are part of the Research Council of Finland’s new flagship programme, Education for the Future. It builds on ongoing large-scale RCTs and new infrastructure for conducting massive assessments and surveys in schools that are augmented with rich administrative data. The new fellows will join a vibrant community of researchers in Helsinki and beyond working on education and labor economics. (At Aalto, key members include Ciprian Domnisoru, Kristiina Huttunen, Matti Sarvimäki, Mikko Silliman, Miri Stryjan and Marko Terviö.) We offer access to remarkable research networks and data and the opportunity to use our infrastructure in suitable new projects. The fellows are also given the time and support to develop their own research agendas. In return, we expect them to be active members of the labor economics research group and our broader academic community, participate in graduate student supervision and teach one course in the economics of education or a related field.
The Department of Economics at Aalto University (https://www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-economics) is the leading research-oriented economics unit in Finland. It is part of the Helsinki Graduate School of Economics (https://www.helsinkigse.fi), which brings together the economics faculty from three Finnish universities (including the University of Helsinki and Hanken School of Economics) and collaborates closely with the VATT Institute for Economic Research.
