The President of the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB), Prof. Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln, PhD, is recruiting
a Scientific Officer
at the next possible date, initially for a limited period of 2 years with a weekly working time of 39 hours. The role of the Scientific Officer is to support the President in the analysis of economic policy issues and in the development of speeches and general audience publications.
The WZB Berlin Social Science Center is a publicly financed research institution that conducts leading edge theory-based and problem-oriented social science research (http://www.wzb.eu/en). WZB researchers come from across the globe and work across social science disciplines including sociology, political science, economics, law, and psychology. A member of the Leibniz Association, WZB’s research is directed at the science community, policy makers, the media and the general public.
The research areas of Professor Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln, Ph.D. cover inequality, social mobility, and growth, with a specific focus on the labor market, fiscal policies, and the formation of preferences.
Your tasks and duties
As Scientific Officer, you will be responsible for preparing speeches, presentations and press releases by the President. This includes:
- Scientific advice and conceptual work on current economic policy issues as well as societal and science policy debates
- Research and preparation of well-founded background information on economic issues and science policy topics for interviews, publications and lectures
- Preparation of presentations and press statements
- Scientific advice and support in connection with the President’s external committee responsibilities, in particular in economic policy consulting
- Support in the organization of international scientific conferences
Your qualifications
- Completed doctorate in economics
- Very good university degree in economics
- Broad interest and curiosity in economic research topics and science policy topics
- Experience in writing academic and non-academic publications and creating presentations
- Strong ability to quickly familiarize yourself with complex issues
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- Fluency in German and English
- Very high degree of self-organization and motivation as well as the ability to work independently, team-oriented and thoroughly
- First work experience in a unversity or non-university research institution in an area relevant to the position is desirable
- Good knowledge of statistical programs, such as Stata, is an advantage
