The Agricultural Risk Policy Center (ARPC) at North Dakota State University invites applications for a non-tenure track position as Senior Research Economist and Associate Director at the rank of Associate or Full Research Professor, with an expected start date of March 16, 2025, or as negotiated. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead research initiatives related to agricultural risk management and policy evaluation. The Associate Director will work closely with the ARPC Director to guide the Center’s research strategy, focusing on developing predictive models to assess the impacts of agricultural policies and overseeing policy evaluation efforts that address critical agricultural risk management issues. The role will also provide near-time policy analyses to help stakeholders respond to unexpected market disruptions. The successful candidate will provide leadership in conducting high-level research, manage research teams, and mentor junior researchers. Additionally, the Associate Director will be key in securing external funding and establishing partnerships with policymakers, agricultural institutions, and industry leaders. The candidate will report directly to the ARPC Director and help shape the future of agricultural policy research at the Center. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, economics, or a related field. The successful candidate should demonstrate expertise in econometric modeling and policy evaluation, especially in the context of agricultural risk management. Experience working with farm-level RMA data or other similar datasets for empirical analysis is required. The candidate must also possess excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to effectively present complex research findings to policymakers, stakeholders, and academic audiences. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate experience in leading research teams and working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidates will have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications in agricultural economics or related fields. Experience in securing external funding for research projects is highly desirable. Familiarity with U.S. agricultural policy frameworks, particularly crop insurance programs and agricultural risk management strategies, is preferred. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to develop and manage institutional partnerships with policymakers, agricultural institutions, and industry leaders, enhancing the visibility and impact of research findings.
