The Agricultural Risk Policy Center (ARPC) at North Dakota State University invites applications for a non-tenure track position as Senior Research Economist and Program Leader at the rank of Research Assistant/Associate Professor, with an expected start date of March 16, 2025, or as negotiated. This appointment offers an exciting opportunity to lead research initiatives focused on developing a predictive model to assess the impacts of agricultural risk management policy proposals.

The successful candidate will engage in high-level research activities, such as developing a foundational policy evaluation model based on farm-level RMA data, conducting empirical analysis of crop insurance participation and subsidy rates, and producing policy reports on crop insurance data and risk management for the Upper Midwest. The role also includes establishing institutional partnerships for livestock risk management and dairy insurance programs.

This position also involves mentoring junior researchers, contributing to publications, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The candidate will report directly to the ARPC Director and play a key role in shaping the future of agricultural policy research at the Center. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, applied economics, or a related field. The successful candidate should have substantial expertise in econometric modeling, agricultural risk management, and U.S. agricultural policy. The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex research clearly to various stakeholders, including policymakers, agricultural stakeholders, and academic peers. Proven experience in collaborating with interdisciplinary teams is essential.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and demonstrated success in securing external funding for research projects are preferred. Experience with advanced statistical and econometric methods, including machine learning techniques, will be an asset. Familiarity with U.S. agricultural policy and the ability to engage with stakeholders in crop and livestock risk management are required. The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to translate research into actionable policy insights.

Starting Date: March 16, 2025, or as negotiated.
