The Department of Economics at Rice University in Houston, TX, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin on July 1, 2026. The individual selected for this position will conduct high-quality research in Development Economics or Microeconomic Theory, teach undergraduate and graduate classes in either of those fields, publish papers in top journals, and present at conferences.

Candidates should show evidence of research excellence and a commitment to teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The minimum educational requirement is a Ph.D. in economics. Ph.D. requirements must be fulfilled by June 30, 2026.

The Economics Department is a dynamic unit within Rice’s School of Social Sciences that has hired over a dozen outstanding scholars in recent years and is committed to pathbreaking research and exceptional teaching. Houston is a cosmopolitan and diverse city, characteristics that are reflected in the University, including academic resources in women and gender issues, African and African American studies, Latinx and Latin American studies, and Asian studies, as well as the Baker Institute for Public Policy and the Kinder Institute for Urban Research.
