Hanken School of Economics invites applications for

Two Assistant Professors (tenure-track) in Economics

beginning no later than September 2026 (negotiable). Both positions are in the Economics Unit at the Department of Finance and Economics, Helsinki:

  • Assistant professor (all fields): For this position, we will consider candidates in all fields of Economics.
  • Assistant professor (industrial organization and/or behavioural and experimental economics): For this position, we consider candidates with research experience/interests in industrial organization and/or behavioural and experimental economics. We are particularly interested in candidates who complement the research profile of the Economics unit, for example, those with research experience/interests at the intersection of industrial organization and behavioural and experimental economics, and/or economics of market design.

The positions are part of the Hanken tenure track system. They are open to talented individuals who have potential for an excellent scientific career. Individuals placed on the Hanken tenure track have the possibility to advance in their career through regular performance assessments, which take into account their merits in all relevant qualification areas of the tenure track system.

Hanken School of Economics is a research-oriented business school offering education in English and Swedish. Hanken’s Economics unit is committed to high-quality teaching and research, specializing particularly in industrial organisation, behavioural and experimental economics, and empirical and theoretical microeconomics more generally. Requirements

The applicants will be reviewed based on their research, teaching, institutional service, and societal impact. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree (or be near completion of the doctorate) in economics or in a related field. When evaluating the applicants’ qualifications, the focus will be on the potential to conduct high quality scientific research in economics and the potential to provide high-quality teaching in economics.

Being a stand-alone business school with strong Nordic roots, Hanken offers high-quality degree programmes in Swedish and English. For both positions, applicants are required to have fluent command of English, knowledge of Swedish is considered a merit. Hanken supports its faculty in learning the Swedish language, which serves as the administrative language of the business school.

Academic staff at Hanken are expected to carry out and supervise scientific research, provide high-quality academic teaching, closely follow the advances of their field, and contribute service to Hanken, the academic community, and society. Teaching tasks are allocated based on the curriculum needs of the subject and by considering relevant own expertise.

The full-time position has an annual working time of 1612 hours. During the academic year, it is expected that a minimum average of three days per week is spent at the office in Helsinki to actively contribute to the research and teaching environment. Hanken requires academic employees to reside and work in Finland, and it offers relocation support for tenure track professors coming from outside Finland.

Salary

The salary is based on the university salary system in Finland (includes employee healthcare as well as pension and holiday contributions). The exact salary level depends on the recruited individual’s qualifications. Hanken will support the selected employee with a start-up research budget, and additional research, travel and teaching development grants can also be applied for. Hanken rewards excellence in both research and teaching.
