The Department of Economics invites applicants within the following fields:
Requirements
Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Economics by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, and no later than September 30, 2026. Anticipated start date for all positions will be August 1, 2026.
Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research of the highest international caliber in one of the fields listed above. This can be demonstrated by an innovative job market paper with a significant contribution to the literature, high-quality working papers, (forthcoming) publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals, strong recommendations by referees who themselves have a record of excellence in research of the highest international caliber, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, and awards and accolades.
We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. To be considered for a position candidates should motivate their application considering the Department’s overall research profile and location.
About the project
The two postdoctoral positions are financed by the ERC Advanced Grant EXPLOIT, led by Professor Bård Harstad. The project combines environmental economics, political economy, and microeconomic theory to analyse how environmental regulation, and environmental agreements can be designed when politicians and governments face political constraints. The work will clarify how such constraints shape the effectiveness of environmental regulation, and how international environmental policies can exploit domestic political forces.
Candidates should articulate how they can contribute to and strengthen the project.
How to apply
The deadline for applications is November 30, 2025. Applications must be submitted online at https://econjobmarket.org/.
A complete application must include a cover letter; a current curriculum vitae; a research statement outlining current and future research interests and how the candidate’s research profile matches one or more of the fields listed in the posting; a job market paper (clearly labeled); and three recent letters of reference (on letterhead, dated, and signed) uploaded directly by referees. Other working papers or publications are optional. Candidates are asked to specify in which field they apply for a position, and whether they want to be considered for a tenure-track position or a tenured position.
Interviews will be conducted online, around the time of the European Job Market, 15-18 December. We will invite a limited number of candidates for virtual job talks in January or early February.
