The Vienna School of International Studies (Diplomatische Akademie Wien) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in International Economics for a period of two years, starting in September 2026. Upon successful evaluation in the second year, the appointment may be extended for an additional three years. Designed to foster the professional development of the appointee, the position allows the Fellow to focus primarily on his or her own research while teaching three courses per academic year at the graduate level.

Applicants must hold – or provide evidence of imminent completion of – a doctorate in economics. We welcome candidates working in all areas of international economics, including but not limited to monetary policy and central banking, trade and international finance, growth and development economics, environmental economics, and political economy or public choice, provided their research is clearly connected to international or macroeconomic issues. Preference will be given to applicants who employ empirical or quantitative methods. Excellent knowledge of econometrics and strong programming skills (preferably in R) are therefore an asset. A record of research achievement at the international level, a strong agenda for future research, and previous teaching experience – preferably at the graduate level – are essential.

The Vienna School of International Studies is a professional school, specialized in the interdisciplinary education of graduate students, and an associate member of APSIA. The presence of international organizations in Vienna makes for excellent research opportunities, in particular for research dealing with diplomacy, governance and multilateralism broadly defined.

The closing date for applications is 28 February 2026, midnight.

Depending on seniority and experience, the postdoctoral fellow will be offered a yearly salary (before taxes and social security contribution) between EUR 49.000 and 53.000.>/p>
