Center for Excellence in Finance and Economic Research (CEFER), Bank of Lithuania

The Bank of Lithuania is inviting applications for a Senior Research Economist at the Center for Excellence in Finance and Economic Research (CEFER). CEFER is an independent structural unit of the Bank of Lithuania, whose academic partners are two largest public universities in Lithuania. CEFER conducts a wide range of research in economics and finance that contributes to the quality of decision-making necessary for the Bank of Lithuania's core functions and publishes its outcomes in international scientific journals of the highest repute. The mission of CEFER includes promoting high-level discussions on topical academic issues in economics and finance, enhancing the quality of economics education in Lithuania, educate the public.

The position is centred on research with a small teaching load and optional involvement in policy work. We are looking for candidates working in the broad areas of Finance, including various sub-fields in financial economics: general financial markets (both domestic and international), securities (stocks, bonds, and commodity and other futures), financial institutions and services, or Payment Systems, covering card-based payments, online banking, digital wallets and mobile payments, as well as digital payment systems (CBDCs and stablecoins).

The position entails a double-appointment -- one with the central bank and another with a partner university.

Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in economics or finance
  • A promising job-market paper and additional research projects/papers/ideas
  • Teaching experience or enthusiasm to teach
  • Experience or willingness to attract third-party funding
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills in English
