The International Economics Group at the University of Hohenheim seeks to hire a

Postdoctoral Researcher in International Trade

beginning from April 1, 2026, or as mutually agreed.

We invite applications from outstanding and highly motivated early-career researchers with a strong background in theoretical modeling and state-of-the-art quantitative methods. The position is ideal for a researcher aiming to advance their academic career by further developing a promising research agenda in the field of International Trade.

The successful applicant has already demonstrated her/his ambition to pursue an academic career by showing outstanding scientific skills in her/his doctoral studies. The ideal candidate combines the ability to conduct independent and innovative research with a strong interest in collaborative projects within our group, aiming to publish in leading academic journals. We particularly seek candidates who have a solid foundation in economic theory and advanced quantitative methods, and who are eager to apply these approaches in their research. In particular, we invite contributions to our work on trade and industrial policy, including the analysis of firm-level production networks and the geoeconomic implications of global value chains.

The University of Hohenheim is located in Stuttgart in the South of Germany. We offer a dynamic, research-focused environment with dedicated mentoring and opportunities for collaboration. You will have access to advanced research infrastructure and relevant databases, as well as financial support for participation in national and international conferences. We also provide structured support for developing your skills in academic and university-level teaching.

Applicants hold a doctoral degree in Economics (completed within the past two years) or are close to completion. The initial appointment is full-time for a term of three years, with the possibility of renewal. Remuneration is based on the TV-L public pay scale (state of Baden Wuerttemberg), salary group E13. The regular teaching obligation is 4 hours per semester.

The University of Hohenheim seeks to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages qualified female researchers to apply. With equal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates with disabilities.

Please submit your application online via econjobmarket.org before December 3, 2025 midnight UTC. The application package should include: (i) cover letter, (ii) academic curriculum vitae, (iii) job market paper, (iv) research statement describing your research agenda (3 pages maximum), and (v) at least two reference letters.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed for the position in December.
