The Department of Economics at Aalto University invites applications for two postdoctoral fellowships starting in September 2026. The positions are in the economics of education, broadly defined. The duration of the fellowships is three years, with the possibility of extension to a fourth year. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree (or be near completion of the doctorate) in economics or a related field. Candidates will be evaluated based on their research achievements and engagement in the scientific community.

The positions are part of the Research Council of Finland’s flagship program Education for the Future (EDUCA). The program builds on ongoing large-scale randomized controlled trials and new infrastructure for conducting extensive assessments and surveys in schools, linked with rich administrative data. The fellows will join a vibrant community of researchers in Helsinki and beyond working on education and labor economics. We offer access to exceptional research networks and data, the opportunity to use our infrastructure for suitable new projects, and a competitive salary with a generous research budget. The fellows are given time and support to develop their own research agendas. In return, we expect them to be active members of the economics of education research group and the broader academic community, to participate in graduate student supervision, and to contribute to teaching by offering one six-week course per year or an equivalent combination of lectures, seminars, and supervision.

The Department of Economics at Aalto University (www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-economics) is the leading research-oriented economics unit in Finland. It is part of the Helsinki Graduate School of Economics (www.helsinkigse.fi), which brings together the economics faculty of Aalto University, the University of Helsinki, Hanken School of Economics, and Helsinki-based research institutes (particularly the VATT Institute for Economic Research). More information about the Economics of Education group is available at www.helsinkigse.fi/groups/economics-of-education.
