Research Fellow in Economics

The Centre for Business Taxation seeks to recruit a Research Fellow in Economics. The successful applicant will be expected to carry out research into business taxation under the guidance of the Centre’s Director and other senior staff. A fixed term contract of three years is available in the first instance.

The Research Fellow will be expected to undertake the following activities:

• The fellow should undertake independent research within the broad area of business taxation. Research output should primarily be aimed at leading peer-reviewed academic journals; however, all researchers in the Centre are also expected to contribute to policy-related output.

• The fellow will be expected to make a significant contribution to a new collaborative research project that aims to investigate the incidence of business taxes using administrative data from Denmark. The project is led by Professor Niels Johannesen.

• The fellow will be expected to be an experienced team member, to work in the Centre, and to contribute fully to the life and activities of the Centre by providing supportive guidance and occasional supervision to more junior staff.

• The fellow will be expected to make a significant contribution to the writing of group-funding applications for new research projects, including sharing responsibility for shaping the Centre’s research programme.

• The fellow may be asked to teach on the MSc in Taxation degree programme, including supervising students and dissertations.

• The fellow will be expected to contribute to developing the Centre’s public profile by taking part in external activities as required by the Director.

• The post holder must be able to perform other such duties as may be required (appropriate to the grade).

To assess your eligibility for this role, please review the full job specification which is linked on the application page. When submitting your application, please ensure you upload your CV, a recent paper, and a cover letter. You must also provide details of two referees and state whether or not we may contact them.

Deadline for applications is Friday 28th November 2025 at 12:00 (midday) UK time.
