Tampere University is inviting applications for the position of university lecturer in Economics. Economics at Tampere University is part of the degree program in business studies at the Faculty of Management and Business. We provide an internationally standardized Economics program at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels. Our research covers a multitude of topics related to e.g. public finance, labor, health, and environmental economics. Our research utilizes empirical, experimental, and theoretical methods, together with world-class administrative data on individuals and firms. We are the leading partner in the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Tax Systems Research (FIT).

Job description

We seek a highly motivated researcher and teacher to work as a University Lecturer in Economics. The university lecturer conducts independent research that may focus on any field of economics. The tasks will involve teaching core and/or applied courses and supervising theses in Economics. In addition, the position involves duties related to curriculum development, and other related tasks.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in Economics. The PhD degree should be completed by 31 May 2026.
  • a track record of independent scholarly activity
  • ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction

The person chosen for the position should have the capacity for high-quality research and publication activity in economics, and the skills to provide research-based teaching. The successful candidate should have the ability to teach core courses in Economics (micro / macro / econometrics). The exact courses to be taught will depend on departmental needs and the chosen candidate’s expertise, and may involve core and/or applied courses. The teaching load will be approximately 3 lecture courses (typically half a semester each) and a thesis seminar per academic year. The candidate’s research may focus on any field of economics; linkages to our current research areas are an advantage. Other academic activities, international collaboration, and ability for societal interaction are considered a merit. Prior involvement in curriculum development and other responsibilities within the university community are an advantage.

The position requires fluency in English. The position includes some duties wherein proficiency in the Finnish language is useful.

We offer

The anticipated start date is 1st August 2026, unless another date is mutually agreed. The position is permanent. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The position of a University Lecturer is placed on levels 6-7 (teaching and research staff). A typical starting salary of University Lecturer is around 4300 - 4700 EUR/month. Higher salaries may be agreed upon depending on qualifications and experience of the candidate.
