The positions are funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Starting Grant on "Financial Stability in an Era of Digital Currencies" led by Professor Lukas Altermatt and the SNSF grant on "The Next-Generation Monetary System: Institutional Design of Interoperable and programmable CBDCs" led by Professor Cyril Monnet.

Project description and tasks

The goal of the project is to study the structure and the stability of the future digital financial system. The candidate is expected to work independently on projects in this area, but also to contribute to developing and calibrating models with the project leaders.

Requirements

  • PhD in Economics or Finance, with a focus on Monetary Economics, Macroeconomics, Financial Intermediation, or a related field, by the time of the appointment or shortly thereafter
  • Strong expertise in theoretical modeling and programming
  • Expertise in quantitative analysis and in handling empirical data is desirable
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong potential to conduct high-quality research, as evidenced by publications or working papers suitable for publication in leading journals
