This is an opportunity to conduct research at the intersection of labor economics and finance using rich administrative microdata in a department with a strong track record of publishing in leading finance journals.

The Department of Finance at the Aalto University School of Business invites applications for Postdoctoral Researchers working with Aalto Distinguished Professor Matti Keloharju (research profile) and Professor of Ownership Samuli Knüpfer (research profile). The postdoctoral researchers will work on projects relying on large-scale administrative microdata, with potential for record linkage across registers. The subprojects belonging to this project span labor economics, health economics, and finance, with the primary aim of publishing in leading finance journals.

The contract can start as early as August 2026 and can last until July 31, 2028. The positions are funded by the Research Council of Finland and Aalto Ownership Lab. The contract may be extended subject to performance and availability of additional funding. The positions are research-focused; teaching and other duties are not expected to exceed 10% of working time. The annual salary is approximately €56,000 for newly graduated postdoctoral researchers and depends on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

To be considered, candidates are expected to show evidence of strong research potential, expertise in advanced analytics on large datasets, and interest in publishing in finance journals. Candidates should have hands-on experience integrating AI tools into their research pipeline—for example, deploying large language models for data processing, building structured prompting workflows, or using AI-assisted coding for computationally intensive tasks. The application should include a brief description of a specific project or task in which the candidate used AI in a non-trivial way, including the tools used and what they accomplished. Candidates must have obtained or expect to obtain a PhD by the start of the position.

Application

Applications should be submitted via econjobmarket.org. Application material should contain a cover letter, CV including publications, job market paper, and three letters of reference.

Interviews

Interviews will be conducted remotely by video.
