The Brown University Watson School of International and Public Affairs and School of Public Health invite applications for a tenure track faculty position for a health economist at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The position is joint between the Department of Health Services, Policy, and Practice as the School of Public Health and the Watson School of International and Public Affairs. The search is open to scholars applying for Associate and Full Professor positions, as well as scholars applying for an Assistant Professor position who have at least four years of experience since receiving their PhD.

We seek candidates with a background in health economics whose research makes rigorous and policy-relevant contributions to the scholarly literature in a manner appropriate to their career stage. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability to engage with students, policymakers, and an interdisciplinary range of scholars around the implications of their research for public policy. We are particularly interested in scholars conducting innovative research in health policy or health economics. The successful candidate will join a vibrant interdisciplinary community of scholars working at the intersection of health policy, economics, public policy, and public affairs, with opportunities to collaborate across both schools.

The position is expected to begin July 1, 2027. All candidates should submit: (1) a cover letter describing research completed and planned, as well as how the candidate’s work would contribute to the research and teaching missions of our diverse and inclusive university community and (2) a curriculum vitae through Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/190522. To receive full consideration applications must be received by September 7, 2026. Applications will be accepted until the position is either filled or the search is closed.

The Watson School of International and Public Affairs is Brown University's hub for research, teaching, and engagement on public policy and global challenges. The School brings together scholars from diverse disciplines to address complex policy problems through rigorous research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and close engagement with policymakers and practitioners.

The Department of Health Services, Policy and Practice (HSPP) is one of the four School of Public Health departments. It includes eight research centers, a top-ranked doctoral program, and post-doctoral training programs. HSPP provides an academic home to researchers interested in a wide array of populations, topics, and methods. Active research areas include payment policy, market structure, pharmaceutical policy, insurance design, and innovations in health care delivery.
