The Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is seeking to hire an established research economist with a PhD and post-PhD experience at an academic or policy institution.
Successful candidates will be economists with outstanding records whose research advances understanding of labor markets and worker behavior that informs monetary policy, financial stability, and inclusive economic growth. Evidence of research using administrative data and modern empirical methods is especially desirable. We welcome applicants who are eager to contribute to the monetary policy advising process at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Successful candidates will be expected to regularly interact with senior policymakers at the bank on labor market topics that will inform monetary policy. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required. A demonstrated ability to translate research to non-academic audiences is a strong differentiator.
The Department maintains an excellent research environment and provides substantial support for research and travel. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is the site of the Atlanta Federal Statistical Research Data Center, which provides restricted access to non-publicly available Census data. The position requires access to FOMC information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. federal immigration law. Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and U.S. permanent residents who either are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization or who have applied for naturalization within the requisite timeframe. Candidates who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents may be eligible for the information access required for these positions and sponsorship for a work visa, and subsequently for permanent residence, if they sign a declaration of intent to become a U.S. citizen and meet other eligibility requirements. In addition, all candidates must undergo an applicable background check and comply with all applicable information handling rules, and all non-U.S. citizens must sign a declaration of intent to become a U.S. citizen and pursue a path to citizenship.
