CEMFI is inviting applications for one Research Project Coordinator position to join the Shared Prosperity Lab, led by Professor Monica Martinez-Bravo. The position is initially for two years and will be based at CEMFI in Madrid, and it is funded by the European Research Council Consolidator Grant, whose PI is Professor Monica Martinez-Bravo.
The Shared Prosperity Lab is a new research and policy initiative aimed at developing a frontier research agenda on how economic policy can deliver broadly shared prosperity and strengthen trust in political institutions. The Lab will produce original research, engage with the latest advances in economics, and translate new evidence into concrete policy proposals. It will work closely with leading researchers and policymakers to identify important unanswered questions and build a bridge between cutting-edge economic research and policy design.

The position
The Research Project Coordinator will be a core member of the Lab’s leadership team and a close strategic counterpart to the Principal Investigator, helping shape the Lab’s research and policy agenda and translate its priorities into concrete projects, collaborations, and outputs.
We are looking for a highly versatile, proactive, and hands-on candidate with a strong background in applied economic research and excellent management, organizational, writing, and problem-solving skills. The Research Project Coordinator should be comfortable moving between high-level strategic work and the practical execution needed to move projects forward.
The position will involve substantial project and people management. The Research Project Coordinator will coordinate Research Assistants and other collaborators, establish priorities and work plans, monitor progress and deadlines, and help ensure the quality and timely delivery of the Lab’s projects.
The Research Project Coordinator will also coordinate the PI’s research and policy activities related to the Lab, including preparing key meetings, workshops, and collaborations; managing calendars and schedules when needed; translating decisions into clear next steps; coordinating follow-up across researchers and external partners; and anticipating issues requiring the PI’s attention.
The role will also involve engagement with public policy, including coordinating collaborations with government institutions, researchers, foundations, and other external partners; preparing meetings and presentations; contributing to research proposals and funding applications; and supporting the translation of research findings into policy discussions. The Research Project Coordinator will also contribute to the Lab’s outreach and communications, including through social media, dissemination activities, and interactions with the media.
Excellent writing skills are particularly important. The Research Project Coordinator will be expected to communicate complex economic ideas clearly and contribute to reports, policy briefs, presentations, concept notes, proposals, and other materials for academic, policy, and broader audiences.
The position requires a high degree of autonomy, judgment, and flexibility. We are looking for someone who can identify what needs to be done, solve problems proactively, and take ownership of tasks ranging from strategic and substantive work to operational and logistical details.
Candidate profile
Candidates should have at least a Master’s degree in Economics, Public Policy, or a closely related field, together with strong training and experience in applied economic research.
We particularly value:
· Strong experience in applied economic research and the ability to engage confidently with frontier academic work.
· Experience at the intersection of research and public policy, particularly working with governments or public administrations.
· Excellent writing and communication skills.
· Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines.
· Experience coordinating Research Assistants, researchers, or other team members.
· Strong judgment, initiative, versatility, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently and move comfortably between strategic thinking and detailed implementation.
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with academics, policymakers, and external partners.
Proficiency in both English and Spanish is required.
Able to legally work in the European Union is required.
