Aix-Marseille School of Economics (AMSE, UMR 7316) and Aix-Marseille Université (AMU) are recruiting a Junior Professor Chair (Chaire de Professeur Junior, CPJ) on the theme "Public Policy Evaluation and Analysis of Public Administration Institutions".

The CPJ is a fixed-term contract of five years leading, after evaluation by a dedicated committee, to tenure as Professeur des Universités (category A) — the senior professorial rank in the French system. Gross salary during the contract is €4,061 per month (about €48,700 per year), evolving thereafter along the professorial scale. The chair carries a 50% reduction in teaching load — 64 hours per year instead of 128 — during the first three years. Further teaching load reduction may be granted based on participation in policy evaluation contracts. The contract must be signed in December 2026, but the starting date can be in 2027 and will be agreed upon with the selected candidate.
The chair comes with a €200,000 ANR package, of which €120,000 is earmarked for hiring (PhD student, postdoctoral researcher, or research engineer). AMSE is a joint research unit of AMU, CNRS, EHESS and Centrale Méditerranée, spread across Aix-en-Provence and Marseille, with a long-standing graduate school and stable research funding.
We are looking for an empirical economist working on the causal evaluation of public policies with advanced econometric methods. Environmental taxation, corporate taxation and redistributive policies are priority areas of application, but strong empirical candidates in public economics, environmental economics, law and economics, labour, health, education or innovation economics with a clear public-policy orientation are equally welcome. Experience in research environments where policy evaluation and tax or environmental economics are central to institutional debate is an asset. The chair is part of AMSE's ambition to become a European reference centre for policy evaluation, through international consortia, cross-country administrative data and competitive European funding.
A doctorate (or a degree recognised as equivalent) is required to apply to the position.
