As part of his development strategy, the Department of Information Systems, Data Analytics and Operations (IDO), is opening a position at its Cergy-Pontoise (Greater Paris) campus, starting in September 2027. The search will prioritize appointments at the Assistant Professor level with a tenure track of six years; exceptional candidates may also be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level (tenured in this case).

Offer description

We are primarily seeking candidates whose research is in econometrics and who have a strong background in statistics. Candidates in statistics, as well as those in applied probability or applied mathematics whose research has strong connections to statistics, are also encouraged to apply. We also welcome research that connects these fields with machine learning or artificial intelligence and is suitable for publication in leading journals in those areas. The selected candidate will pursue an internationally oriented research agenda. Their main objective will be to produce impactful, high-quality academic publications that consolidate and strengthen ESSEC’s reputation and expertise. This will, in particular, benefit the reputation of the PhD concentration in Data Analytics and related master programs, such as the ESSEC-CentraleSupélec Master in Data Sciences & Business Analytics. The position also involves teaching primarily in econometrics, statistics and data analytics, across the relevant programs. The candidates will be evaluated on a maximum of 3 papers of their choice.

The Department places a strong emphasis on high quality, high impact research and excellence in teaching. Its faculty members publish in the top tier, for example in Econometrica, JASA, Annals of Statistics, Journal of Econometrics, and PhD students are placed at top research institutions in Europe, North America, and Australia.

Skills/Requirements

  • Candidates should have a recognized publication record in top tier data analytics journals and are expected to continue to publish their pipeline in these journals.
  • Candidates are expected to play a leadership role in research and teaching development.
  • All areas of research in data analytics are welcome.
  • In addition to research and teaching excellence, a successful record in supervising and placing PhD students and a history of conducting research with junior faculty are highly desirable.
  • Candidates must be able to teach in English.
  • The positions will be filled at the appropriate rank depending on the profile and experience of the candidate.
