The Department of Economics is part of the Helsinki Graduate School of Economics (Helsinki GSE), an academic initiative for economic research and graduate education together with the economics units at Aalto University and Hanken School of Economics. The three economics departments share teaching, seminars, and PhD supervision and form an active research community with more than 35 professors and around 80 PhD students. The University of Helsinki has the main responsibility for advanced teaching in macroeconomics within Helsinki GSE. The appointment will strengthen a quantitatively oriented macroeconomics group that currently includes two full professors and three assistant professors. The Department of Economics is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Faculty is Finland’s leading research and education institute in social sciences.
The Bank of Finland has an active international research unit within its Monetary Policy and Research Department, with 11 permanent researchers as well as research fellows, visiting scholars, PhD interns/research assistants, and a research seminar program. The department employs more than thirty economists with a PhD. The research unit focuses on macroeconomics and monetary economics, financial markets, and their interactions. The successful candidate will have opportunities for research interaction and collaboration with researchers and policy economists at the Bank of Finland.
Applicants should hold a PhD degree in Economics (or a related field) by the start date and demonstrate potential for high-quality research and teaching.
