The Department of Economics at Erasmus School of Economics (ESE), Erasmus University Rotterdam, invites applications for a three-year Postdoctoral Researcher position in Political, Organisational, and/or Development Economics. The position is expected to start on 1 September 2027. The successful candidate will develop their own research agenda, with approximately 90% of working time dedicated to research.

We welcome applications from candidates whose primary research field is political economics, organisational economics, development economics, or a closely related area. Both empirical and applied theory researchers with a microeconomic approach are encouraged to apply. Applicants should hold a PhD in Economics or be close to completion by the start date and demonstrate strong research potential through a job market paper and research pipeline suitable for publication in leading economics journals.

In addition to a strong job market paper, we seek candidates that can demonstrate a broader research portfolio and experience presenting their research at international conferences or seminars. Furthermore, we value applicants who are interested in collaborative research and grant acquisition and who have gained teaching experience.

About the Department

The Erasmus School of Economics is an internationally recognized research and teaching institution. Its Department of Economics maintains an active, ambitious, and collaborative research environment. Faculty members are closely affiliated with the Tinbergen Institute, one of Europe's leading graduate schools and research institutes in economics, econometrics and finance. The department hosts regular research seminars featuring leading scholars from around the world and offers extensive opportunities for collaboration with faculty, PhD candidates, and visiting researchers.

The Position

The successful candidate will develop and pursue an independent research agenda while actively contributing to the intellectual life of the department. Opportunities exist for collaboration with colleagues working in political economics, organisational economics, and development economics.

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to participate in departmental research activities, including organising seminars and conferences, hosting visitors, and contributing to research grant applications. The department values a strong on-campus presence and seeks candidates who will be active members of the research community.

Teaching responsibilities are expected to be limited to one course (spanning 7-8 weeks) and supervision of students writing their BA or MA thesis, allowing substantial time for research throughout the appointment.
