The Department of Economics at Turku School of Economics, University of Turku, invites applications for a position in macroeconomics at the tenured Full Professor or tenure-track Associate/Assistant Professor level. Tenure-track appointments are initially fixed-term.
We seek a macroeconomist conducting research of a high international standard. We particularly value research that examines how microeconomic mechanisms and heterogeneity among households or firms shape macroeconomic outcomes and the effects of economic policy. Experience in using individual- and firm-level register data in macroeconomic research will be considered an advantage.
The Department of Economics is one of Finland’s leading economics research units, with strengths in economic theory, methods and empirical analysis. Its extensive expertise in register-based research, strong postgraduate research training and success in securing competitive research funding provide an attractive environment for developing macroeconomic research. Particular attention will be paid to how candidates’ expertise complements these strengths. Opportunities for research collaboration within the Department are also valued.
The appointee will conduct research, lead and develop a macroeconomics research group, and secure external research funding. They will also lead the development of macroeconomics teaching in collaboration with other teaching staff, teach macroeconomics, supervise master’s theses and doctoral dissertations, and develop research networks in Finland and internationally. The role includes active participation in the Department’s research community and research-based public engagement.
Applicants’ achievements and potential will be assessed in relation to the level of appointment and their career stage. For tenure-track appointees, responsibilities for research group leadership and teaching development will be commensurate with career stage. A track record of securing external research funding and previous research collaboration in macroeconomics in Finland and internationally will be considered advantages.
Tenure-track appointments are intended for researchers who have progressed beyond the postdoctoral stage. Career mentoring is offered to tenure-track appointees.
Fluency in spoken and written English is required. The appointee must be fluent in Finnish or commit to learning the language.
