The Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta seeks a Director for the newly created Survey Research Center. The Director provides high-level leadership for the Center by developing, maintaining and disseminating a number survey products to both academic and policy audiences. The current portfolio of survey products includes: The Survey of Consumer Payment Choice (https://www.frbatlanta.org/banking-and-payments/consumer-payments.aspx), the Business Inflation Expectations Survey (https://www.frbatlanta.org/research/inflationproject/bie), the Survey of Business Uncertainty (in development), participation in the Federal Reserve System’s Small Business Credit Survey (https://www.newyorkfed.org/smallbusiness) and ad hoc regional surveys. In addition to managing the Center, the Director is expected to maintain a strong professional original research agenda for both academic publication and for policy purposes.

Key responsibilities of the Director include:

  • Manages and directs activities related to the Survey Research Center which includes branding and promoting the use of Center survey products for both internal and external audiences for policy and academic purposes

  • Improves and revises existing survey products as well as designs and implements new surveys of interest to the Bank and to research and policy audiences.

  • Maintains a strong research agenda targeted to high quality academic and policy publications, ideally relying on Center survey products where appropriate.

  • Manages a small team of statisticians, senior professionals and analysts.

  • Performs personnel management functions such as hiring and staff development

  • Recruits, supervises, and organizes visiting scholars and advisors affiliated with the Survey Center.

  • Contributes to the Bank’s FOMC and policy related activities in Director’s area of expertise when requested

The Department maintains an excellent research environment, provides substantial research support, and houses several research centers including the Center for Quantitative Economic Research, the Center for Financial Innovation and Stability, and the Center for Human Capital Studies. The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is also the site of the Atlanta Research Data Center which provides restricted access to non-publicly available Census data.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in economics or related field, and have relevant experience in survey-related research.  Salary and benefits are competitive.
