The Department of Economics at the University of Calgary invites applications for a position of Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Environmental Economics. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) or Associate Professor (with Tenure). The target date for the appointment to begin is July 1, 2020, although it may be possible to negotiate an earlier or later starting date.
The Chair holder is expected to take a leadership role in the Department of Economics’ strong research group in environmental, resource, and energy economics, building on the profile of this research through internal and external collaborations, active participation in professional events, graduate student teaching and supervision, and other means as appropriate.
The successful candidate should be an “exceptional emerging scholar” who is typically within 10 years of the award of their highest degree at the time of nomination. Candidates who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree and who have experienced career interruptions (e.g., maternity or parental leave, extended sick leave) may have their eligibility assessed through the program’s Tier II justification process. Please contact UCalgary’s Office of Research Services for more information: ipd@ucalgary.ca. Further information on the Canada Research Chairs program is available on the Government of Canada’s CRC website, including eligibility criteria. All nominations for CRCs are subject to review and final approval by the CRC Secretariat.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Economics and demonstrate a vision for continuing the University of Calgary’s strength in applied environmental economics (including resource and energy economics) and engaged graduate training. A research profile on topics such as environmental externalities, climate change, natural resource extraction, non-market valuation, or energy markets is required.
The successful candidate at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate evidence of a track record of publications in high quality journals, prior experience in working with external research funding programs, and effectiveness in teaching at the University level.
The successful candidate at the Associate Professor level must demonstrate evidence of a strong track record of publications in high quality journals, evidence of securing ongoing external research funding, effectiveness in teaching at the University level, and evidence of effective graduate student supervision.
