The Questrom School of Business at Boston University anticipates an opening for a full-time lecturer to teach quantitative methods for business in the Questrom School of Business’ undergraduate and masters programs. Pending Provost budgetary approval, the anticipated start date for this faculty position is July 1, 2020.

Currently, Questrom requires its undergraduates to take three quantitative methods classes that cover probability, statistics (with a strong emphasis on multiple regression), optimization, and risk management modeling. Any candidate must be able to teach all three of these undergraduate required courses. Other quantitative courses the successful candidate might be asked to teach include undergraduate business analytics electives, MBA courses on quantitative methods, or courses in our master’s program in business analytics.

Full-time lecturers in the Questrom School have a standard teaching load of six sections per academic year, typically fulfilled by teaching three sections each in the fall and spring semester. As Questrom offers many sections of its core quantitative methods classes each semester, most lecturers are able to satisfy their teaching obligation with multiple sections of some or even all the courses they teach. Lecturers are also expected to perform some service through, for example, membership on school committees, participation in school functions (such as recruiting events), and advising student clubs.

The Questrom School of Business believes that the cultural and social diversity of our faculty, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of our research and academic programs. To that, we are especially eager to have join our ranks a colleague who supports our institutional commitment to ensuring BU is inclusive, equitable, diverse, and a place where all constituents can thrive. The Questrom School of Business seeks to continue diversifying our faculty, student and staff ranks, recognizing that diversity of experience and thought deepens the intellectual endeavor.

Required Skills

Candidates must have demonstrated expertise in the application of quantitative methods in business obtained through some combination of academic work and business experience. A Ph.D. in a field related to the use of quantitative methods in business is desirable, but we will consider candidates with at least a bachelors degrees that can demonstrate sufficient expertise learned through experience applying quantitative tools in business. Experience with and mastery of Python or R, preferably both, is a requirement. Because we expect Questrom students to master the use of Excel, strong Excel skills are also essential. Teaching experience is desirable, but we will consider candidates who have not taught previously.
