The Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) is a bridge builder for research in labor economics. It is the hub of a global network of scholars who work with us to create a sound economic understanding of how labor markets work and how labor market policies perform. We contribute to the future of labor research by supporting young scholars on their paths to becoming tomorrow’s leading academics.

In order to complement our local research team in Bonn, Germany, IZA has openings for

Research Associates

  • Ideal candidates should work in labor economics or a closely related field, and are close to completion of their Ph.D. Excellent knowledge of econometrics and a strong interest in applied and policy-oriented labor issues are a plus.
  • Research associates will engage in self-directed research that has the potential to be published in top journals, and get involved in our network activities and in shared projects of the institute. Team spirit and active participation in the thriving intellectual environment of IZA are essential.
  • The appointment is for up to 6 years: initially for 3 years, with a possibility of renewal for 3 more years. The positions offer a competitive compensation package plus a travel budget, and no teaching obligations. However, teaching opportunities at one of the local universities are available upon interest.

IZA provides a highly stimulating research environment, with excellent facilities and great opportunities through its excellent network. The institute closely co-operates with the universities of Bonn and Cologne as well as with the briq institute on behavior & inequality. Our research staff is a productive blend of established labor economists and promising young academics. IZA has an active weekly seminar series attracting renowned international labor economists and hosts many well-regarded labor economics workshops and conferences.
